How to Tether Palm Pre Plus Without Paying For Mobile HotSpot Monthly Fees!
Developer of the WiFi tethering app for the regular Palm Pre, Raja, has just pinged me on the status of his My Tether app.
My Tether now officially supports Verizon’s Palm Pre Plus, meaning you don’t have to pay the extra $40/month Verizon is charging you. On top of wifi tethering, you also get USB or bluetooth tethering with the My Tether app.
As a user of My Tether for the last 6 months ago since I got my regular Palm Pre, I would say this is a LOT better deal at a flat fee of $14.95 versus Verizon’s $40/month.
Additional features of the new My Tether beta includes network usage graphing, DHCP client list viewing, and also the best part is that you can actually “kick off” any devices that’s not supposed to be there.
On top of everything, there’s also WEP/WPA2 security options.
I don’t see how you can lose by going with the new My Tether. Certainly, paying Verizon $40/month will mean you’d pay about about extra $400 per year.
I should have an updated video review of the new My Tether with all the latest features so watch out for that too.
(Thanks Raja for the tip!)

I’ve got unlimited everything from Sprint, and unless I’m going to stream movies 5 hrs/day thru my Pre, I don’t see how this can cause an issue. Are these data warnings for people wanting to shut off their home internet & use Sprint for EVERYTHING?
Either there’s a lot of abusers out there or I’m missing something. Getting ready to do this, should I be worried w/ 5 hrs. of tethering a week for “normal” web use?

I still have not heard back from him. I sent the last PM on the 7th so its been a few days. I made my donation on the 2nd. It would be great if you could help me out. I may have done something wrong that I am not tracking. Thanks for the help.

Set up MyTether with no problems on my new Pre. It has WebOS 1.4.0. Shows the new Verizon Mobile Hotspot app. I have the basic data plan. When I try to use the 3G connection with MyTether, I do not get internet access. My browser hangs and then says can’t open page https://dunsp.vzw.com. I am assuming that Verizon somehow knows that the traffic is coming from a NAT’ed address? Anyway, if I switch to USB (Bluetooth), and change the datasource to wifi, it works great. Looks like Verizon has gotten wise to MyTether? Is there anyway to make this work?

Well, I guess I will count this as a loss as there is nothing I can do but be pissed at myself for trusting someone that I dont know. What a waste of money and of course its a donation so there is nothing I can legally do that I know of (still researching though). I do not recommend that anyone send this guy their money as I did not receive access to anything. I sent PM’s and emails with no response and I can see he has been on here as his last activity was on the 17th and he has yet to provide the software or any instructions on how to get the software despite my many attempts to contact him. If you do take the chance I wish you the best of luck.

Just an update for all. Paypal did their investigation and decided in my favor and refunded my money. This wont matter for many as you now get the mobile hotspot app and service for free from Verizon!

Will this work with an AT&T Pre+ and Windows 7 Home Edition?
