How To Install WiFi Router into your Palm Pre VIDEO!

by admin on Friday, September 25th, 2009

Well, we have been getting a lot of questions on how to install the My Tether wifi router software onto your Palm Pre, so I figured I could make a short video on how to do that step-by-step in YouTube video fashion.  This should answer a lot of questions for people who are having trouble so…

My friend actually just got a new Palm Pre and we taped the whole process on my digital camera.

Hey, Max, I love what you're doing with the hacks & site. I'm new to Linux — I know I should have learned it years ago but I was distracted. I think the pre and your hacks will finally get me over the hump.

Meanwhile, I wanted to email you an idea I have for a hack project for your feedback and/or guidance. But I didn't see an email contact handy on the site. Can you please pass along a way to contact you on-site (sorry if I missed it and it's around somewhere), or privately to me at anonym0use at aoldotcom (with a zero in “m0use” not an “o”). Thanks -'mouse

Hi there, i am running the latest software for palm. when i get to the root i see root@palm, not castle. and when i type wget -q0- http://mytether.net/install.php | but the line looks more like 2 short lines together. so it wont download. wondering if you have any idead about this.

i get to the very last step and it will not WORK.all the code things work. and everything. except i have the same problem as another person. it says @palm. and i type everything in perfectly and it says bad adress and fails to download. PLEASE HELP

  16. brex2040 Says:

If you have updated to the latest WebOS, then yes, it will say @palm. one thing i have found to do is to copy and paste what you are suppose to type, instead of actually typing it. it then worked perfect for me and i was able to install it and it works great. in fact i had to use it last night, since my internet went out. was very fast. was able to play videos off of youtube, a little choppy, but it worked. try to copy and paste it, if still doesnt work. let me know, you can email me directly to spyder3232@gmail.com.

Hi, I finally got the WiFi to work on Vista64 – took a while, but got it going. Only thing is, I never see anything anywhere about the My Tether “patching” to be able to use WiFi. Is there a work around so that I don’t have to to this each time I want to use it? Re-booting the pre is a real pain – takes even longer than my PC!

first error I get is at the novacom command line. I checked and everything is in that dir. I get this:
    ?? getopt returned charcter code 0×3f ??
    version: 16
usage: novacom [-a address] [-p port
this goes on and on but is different I think from the video you show.. And then also I am on my pre typing..so…

I proceed to next step since novacom is already included in my pal bin and I cdont know how to enter that vertical straight line?

I’m guessing that since I’m on a dell laptop and can’t find that symbol after the install.php (straight vertical line)
    how can I add that?

Can someone help me with command to uninstall my tether and how to make the vertical line at command prompt? I think that may be the problem, vert line didnot appear as it should look. Thanks

    Max,
Great video, very easy to follow. I followed all the instructions step by step and I do have the My Tether installed on my Palm Pre. I enable DHCP and it resets the device. However i am not able to see the wireless (ad hoc) device on my wireless networks list. Can you please direct me to how i get the AoNet to show up on my wireless networks list. I have the 1.5.1 version. Thanks
