About

On July 29th 2009, my old blackberry 8830 died on me after 2 years of constant use.  I headed to my Sprint Store to pick up a new phone.  I have heard of Palm Pre but didn’t know it was a linux-based phone.

UPDATE: As of January 6th 2010, I have also bought a Google Nexus One, you can learn how to hack your Nexus One here at the Nexus One Hacks Blog!  Yes, I have two smartphones now capable of WiFi/USB/Bluetooth tethering, it feels good.

I have been an avid fan of Sprint’s fast cellular network and Linus Torvalds.   It took me not too long to realize my dream phone was here, the Palm Pre.

As much as I love gadgets, I wanted to create a blog where I could collect all the cool hacks about the Palm Pre, so this PalmPre-Hacks.com was born on August 2nd 2009 after I figured out how to root into the Palm Pre’s linux system and install My Tether, an app that let’s you turn the Palm Pre into a WiFi router.

Anyways, please check back often for more cool news and hacks on the Palm Pre, you can also find me on my tech blog here.

If  you just got the phone, I highly suggest you to hack it as a WiFi Router or even a USB Modem.    Those two functions by itself make the Palm Pre pay for itself. :)

Of course, if you want to run a website on your Palm Pre, you can learn how to run a WordPress blog on a Palm Pre here.

Or even learn how to track your Palm Pre via GoogleMaps and GPS here.

Additionally, you can “tweet” your Palm Pre’s GPS location to your Twitter account here.

My Letter to Sprint CEO

Dear Gary Forsee,

I hope you find these Palm Pre hacks useful and you will publicly make them “legal” and available to  your customers as I have faith in your company that you will embrace our open-source community and linux operating system.

I think this will actually help the Palm Pre even more popular and why not do a good thing by supporting the open source community?

That’s all I ask and I wish one day we don’t have to be hiding when it could all be “open”.

I also believe that opening up your bandwidth freely to hacks like WiFi tethering and running a website on your Palm Pre will open a whole new door of opportunity to new customers, college students, and more.

Heck, I am sure customers will be flocking to get Palm Pres once they find out you can do so much more with a smartphone.

“Give and you shall receive.”

Anyways, I can’t wait till you guys roll out 4G.

Your Sprint Palm Pre evangelist,

Max Lee @palmprehacks
